ABOUT US
THE COMMUNITY
The Australian Side Saddle Community exists to preserve, support, and celebrate the art of riding side saddle in Australia.
Whether you are an experienced rider, just beginning your journey, or simply drawn to the history and elegance of this unique discipline, you are welcome here. You don’t need to ride to appreciate its beauty. Your interest alone plays a part in keeping this tradition alive.
Through shared knowledge, encouragement, and connection, we are building a community where side saddle remains not only relevant, but continues to thrive across many generations.
We are proud to be affiliated with the American Sidesaddle Association, and to contribute to a broader international network dedicated to the preservation of this historic art.
WHAT IS SIDE SADDLE RIDING?
Side saddle riding is a distinctive equestrian discipline in which the rider sits with both legs to one side of the horse, traditionally the left, using a specially designed saddle that provides both elegance and security.
With correct technique, riders are able to walk, trot, canter, and jump while maintaining balance, control, and harmony with the horse.
In Australia, side saddle is enjoyed across competition, leisure riding, and heritage demonstrations, supported by a growing and passionate community of riders, judges, and enthusiasts.
OUR PLACE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY
While side saddle is not governed by a single national or international body, it is supported by a network of passionate groups, associations, and riders, all contributing to the preservation of this elegant and historic discipline.
The Australian Side Saddle Community is proud to be part of this landscape, working to promote and support side saddle through education, instruction, events, and rider connection.
We collaborate with both local organisations and international bodies, including our affiliation with the American Sidesaddle Association, to provide resources and opportunities for those interested in riding aside and to help uphold its traditions for future generations.
For enquiries about side saddle lessons, please get in touch with our internationally qualified instructor.
Whether you’re looking to learn, connect, or simply follow along, we welcome you to be part of the Australian Side Saddle Community.
