Simone Johnson began her side saddle journey under the guidance of the late Wendy Tidbold, a highly respected figure within the Australian saddlery and harness community.

Wendy was well known for her craftsmanship, side saddle expertise, and dedication to teaching riders while preserving traditional saddlery knowledge.

Under Wendy’s mentorship, Simone spent extensive time:

• Receiving in-saddle coaching

• Learning side saddle fitting and saddle assessment

• Studying traditional equipment, attire, and side saddle making. 

Wendy’s workshop and saddlery museum provided a unique learning environment filled with historic and modern saddlery, attire, and accessories. Simone continues to value and apply the knowledge gained during this formative period.

Continuing the Legacy of Side Saddle Instruction in Australia

Simone Johnson continues the tradition of side saddle education in Australia, focusing on correct, safe, traditonal and modern riding instruction.

Her teaching approach emphasizes:

• Correct and safe side saddle riding technique

• Rider balance, position, and confidence

• Understanding side saddle saddlery and fit

• Preservation of traditional equestrian standards
   

International Side Saddle Qualification (USA)

Simone Johnson is internationally qualified, holding her J.I.C. accreditation (Judge, Instructor, Clinician) through the American Side Saddle Association.

Her international experience includes:

• Training and professional development within the United States

• Riding and participation in the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania parade riding aside

• Experience riding and owning American horse breeds

• Exposure to American side saddle tradition and instruction methods

This international background, combined with her passion for American side saddle history developed during her time living in the USA, strengthens her ability to support riders across different disciplines and training approaches.

The American Sidesaddle Association (ASA) was formed to preserve, promote, and expand the elegance and historical art of riding      sidesaddle. The ASA wishes to promote enthusiasm for sidesaddle riding among the equestrian public.

Founded in 2008, ASA is a network of   regional sidesaddle clubs or chapters located throughout the nation. The Association supports all forms of riding and rider safety.
We honor the women who came before us but are inclusive of all people throughout society.
