VINTAGE Navy Habit by Roberts & Carroll
This stunning habit was tailor made in London in the 1930s!
Beautifully constructed in a substantial, heavy cloth with a well-weighted apron that drapes exactly as it should. She is cut to absolute perfection, with the quality of her tailoring evident in every line and detail.
A true testament to craftsmanship, she has been worn and lovingly cared for by two previous ladies, carrying with her both history and timeless elegance.
She was noted to be a UK/AU size 12/14 - however, we suggest this be considered a “vintage 12/14,” as sizing from this era typically runs smaller than modern measurements.
The jacket features a buttoned collar option to fold up in colder weather - a detail we absolutely love! The apron also features pockets - a rare and practical addition!
Please note: all measurements are approximate and taken as accurately as possible.
JACKET MEASUREMENTS
• Shoulders (seam to seam): 15.5 inches
• Length (collar folded down): 28.5 inches
• Armpit to armpit: 19 inches
• Sleeve length: 22 inches
APRON MEASUREMENTS
• Waist (opened up): 37 inches
• Half waist: 18 -18.5 inches
• There is additional room to add another run of buttons to increase width (see photo)
• Wrap around (left side to back): 12 inches
• Waist to hem (apron drop): 28 inches
• Waist to knee: 14–14.5 inches
• Knee to hem: 23.5 inches
The jacket is in excellent condition; however, the lining - quite typical for a garment of this age, has seen better days, with some small tears and staining. It remains fully functional and is not visible when worn. Alternatively, a new lining could easily be added if desired.
The apron is in great condition overall, however it does present with small tear and some marks where the excess material folds and rests against safe.
Part of the inner lining has also come unstitched. The foot and ankle elastic is in excellent condition.

The habit has been dry cleaned; however, it has been stored in its bag for some time since, so an additional clean would not go astray.
From a home with cats, dogs, and horses, a few stray hairs may still be present.
This habit has been professionally valued at a substantial price!
She has truly stood the test of time. However, due to the minor flaws (remarkable considering her age), the price has been set accordingly to reflect this, with the hope she will be worn, loved, and enjoyed by her next owner.
